Dau Truong Hon Chien Season 3 closed at Sky Expo Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City) after two days of competition. Three champions were crowned: Kidz in the individual category, the duo IS OnlyLuvU – IS TT1 in the 2v2 format, and team Coaching TFT in the 4v4 team format.

Kidz took home 40 million VND. IS OnlyLuvU and IS TT1 split 8 million VND. Coaching TFT earned 12 million VND after topping a field of 31 teams.

Total prize value for the event was 400 million VND. At an indicative rate of roughly 25,000 VND/USD, that lands between 15,000 and 16,000 USD — the scale of a mid-sized community event, far from an international arena.

But when I rebuilt the event's numbers, the item that stays longest on the spreadsheet is not the money.

Every great spreadsheet begins with an empty cell and a question. The empty cell here was the slot.

Context: a community event changing roles

This is the third year Dau Truong Hon Chien has been co-organized by Riot Games and VNGGames. Compared with Season 2, ticket issuance doubled to 768. The event also served as the introduction of the 18th update version, themed "Dai Ngan Ky Bi." Shopee joined as a strategic partner, bringing interactive activities, offers and on-site gifts.

TFT needs to be placed correctly on the genre map. TFT belongs to the auto-battler family, distinct from MOBA. Players assemble lineups, manage economy, pivot and position; combat resolves automatically. Its competitive ecosystem therefore runs differently: no franchise club structure, no player transfer market, built instead around open tournaments and qualifier pathways.

According to data from VNGGames, more than 10,000 registrations were recorded for national qualifiers between 2026 and 2026. VNGGames has held local publishing rights for TFT in Vietnam since November 2026.

The key difference in Season 3: the individual champion received a Vietnam slot for TFT Vegas Open 2026. That slot turns a community meetup into an official node in the international selection pipeline.

Analysis: reading the prize structure as a data table

I always begin by redistributing the money by category rather than by announced order.

The individual category paid 40 million VND. The 4v4 format paid 12 million. The 2v2 duo format paid 8 million. Across the three championship categories, the individual arena accounts for roughly 68% of prize value. That weighting matches operational reality: individual play is the only category tied to an international slot, and the one where ladder skill is measured most directly.

The 4v4 format appeared for the first time. The field had 31 teams — large enough to test whether TFT can carry a team-based competitive layer. Organizationally, this was a deliberate experiment. If Season 4 keeps or expands the format, it signals Vietnam is trying to build a team tier for a game designed for solo play.

On the demand side, doubling tickets to 768 while raising the total pool to 400 million VND shows an event scaling vertically. Alongside that sits the presence of Shopee.

Commercially, an e-commerce sponsor with on-site interactive offers is worth more than a pure brand-exposure sponsor. It generates a measurable conversion layer, and that is a more durable sponsorship type for offline esports events. The trade-off: only one major name appears, so revenue concentration risk remains ahead of Season 4.

When the stands are empty, I hear the data speak for the first time. This time the stands were not empty — but media noise still distorts the structural signal underneath.

The contrarian angle: a small sample and a blank on the patch

Most coverage around the event skipped the sample size. All three titles came from one two-day event. For a title as randomness-dependent as TFT, a single event is not enough to draw a form curve. Kidz's title is a hard outcome — he has the Vegas slot, and that cannot be disputed. But it is evidence of clearing one specific field over two days, separate from evidence of readiness for the international stage. Those are distant categories, and the data is not yet thick enough to bridge them.

The other blank concerns the patch. The organizer's release says the event "introduced" the 18th update. Introducing and competing on that version are two different things. If the finals ran on the previous patch, the result is inherited. If they ran on the new patch, the entire read of the event changes — because TFT rotates its full champion, trait and item pool with each set, and an event landing in a set's launch window becomes the first meta read. The organizer has not confirmed this detail.

What to track next

Kidz's result at TFT Vegas Open 2026 in December is the first hard data point to test the Vietnam-goes-global story. Confirmation of Season 4, and whether the 4v4 format is retained, will show whether the expansion trajectory continues. Next season's sponsor list will answer the revenue-concentration question. And the stability of the national qualifier pipeline into Vegas will determine Vietnamese players' access to international play.
